It was a long journey from São Paulo to Cartagena, first a 6 hours flight to Bogotá, then a 4 hours wait for our connection to Cartagena and then another hour in the plane before we finally arrived.
In Cartagena we got picked up at the airport by two friends from Austria, Simone and Julian, who had already been in Cartagena for a week and had booked us into a really nice hostel in the center of town. We spend the first two days just wandering around Cartagena, concentrating on switching from portugues back to spanish (which was harder than we first thought) and trying the colombian cuisine.
After two days in Cartagena we travelled north because we heard there were good waves for surfing and a nice place to stay just after the Tayrona national park. The hostel there was really in the middle of nowhere with a neverending beach just for ourselves - the only danger there were falling coconuts.
As for the surfing, the waves were probably really good .... for pro-surfers. After a day of trying we gave up and decided that lying in a hammock is maybe also really cool. However after a day chilling out we decided we need to do something so we went to Taganga for some snorkeling adventure!
