Remember: if a bus leaves at 6am and the next one at 6.30am and the second one says "directo" wait half an hour more and take the directo! Otherwise you will end up driving through the country, stopping at every corner you can find and arrive 3 hours later than expected.
After an 6h overnight bus ride from La Rioja to Tucumán, we just wanted to take the next possible bus to continue to Cafayate, and it was early and we were tired and we just wanted to sleep… and so one came to another and we ended up on the first bus. However we can now say with pride: We have seen EVERY village, house or cabin that is between Tucumán and Cafayate! ;)
At least it was worth the effort: in Cafayate we stayed at a really nice hostel (La Morada, we can only recommend it!) and had some awesome days. We went to see the Quebrada de la Concha with it's amazing rock formations and multi-colored mountains, we tried the Torrontés wine (a white-wine-speciality from this area), Torrontés ice-cream and went on a little quad bike tour.
All in all we had three fantastic days in Cafayate!
